The adaptation debate: Off Campus, Bridgerton, and what we actually want

It's time! Off Campus has arrived on Amazon Prime and longtime viewers know I've been genuinely excited to see how this fan-favourite New Adult, sports romance series would translate from page to screen.

It got me thinking a lot about adaptation as a process more generally, how audiences do (or don't) accept changes from source material, and how we evaluate whether those changes can be considered "good" or "bad." How is fan culture and things like #booktok changing the way we engage with popular fiction? Is it fair to compare things like #heatedrivalry and #bridgerton to this latest series - or one another?

And for the new and uninitiated...what the hell is this NEW hockey series you're supposed to care about and how did we get here?!

So...welcome to Off Campus week at de.cadence headquarters. First up, a dive into the world of the original books, when they were written, #spoilers for the book universe, and an initial diatribe on what even makes for a good adaptation anyway!
