Living in the culture that 9/11 built: elder millennials, nostalgia and media trends
I have very specific, vivid memories about 9/11 and its aftermath. And I suspect most elder millennials do! We came of age in world it built and it's affected every aspect of our lives from tech, to travel, to pop culture. And as always, I think pop culture in particular gives us a unique mirror to the wider zeitgeist and attitudes of the consuming public. From prestige TV to the rise of comic book movies, all of my adulthood media has been steeped in the post-9/11 lived reality.
For people my age, it's probably the defining global moment of our lives so far and we've also lived long enough to see the narrative get complicated and even viewed through the lens of nostalgia! So...let's talk about a cultural trauma a quarter century later.
