Is the Off Campus TV show a faithful adaptation? Let’s talk about it

Last time we summarised the world of the Off Campus books, first published in 2015 and 2016, and what makes for a good adaptation generally. Today, we are DIVING INTO IT, BB.

Let me make the case as to why the 2026 Amazon Prime TV series is a good adaptation. Yes, there are changes, but they are made for good reasons and (mostly) executed well. When your source material is over a decade old and you're not doing a "period piece," what worked in 2015 on the page is not going to translate to the screen. Tech, laws, and especially culture is different now. A lot has happened which would make the university experience fundamentally different for a young person/couple and I think it was smart to set the show now. Also, this show is stuffed to the gills with easter eggs and references to keep the book girlies happy and thriving.

But it's not a perfect show and I do have critiques. There are (valid) comparisons to be made to other recent properties like Heated Rivalry and Bridgerton - there are also a lot of invalid ones. Lemme know your thoughts, kittens. Comments are open, as always!
